Immediate Life Support (ILS) Course
Open to Eligible Healthcare and Emergency Professionals
The ILS course is designed for healthcare professionals who may need to act as first responders in an emergency, providing lifesaving skills before a cardiac arrest team arrives.
What You’ll Learn
During the one-day course, you will develop the skills to:
- Recognise and treat deteriorating patients using the ABCDE approach
- Identify causes and promote the prevention of cardiopulmonary arrest
- Perform quality CPR, defibrillation (manual and AED), and simple airway manoeuvres
- Apply non-technical skills for team leadership and effective team membership
Recognition
- UK, EU, and Australian qualification
- Endorsed by the European Resuscitation Council and the Australian Resuscitation Council

Course Format
- Duration: 1 day
- Location: RCUK Approved Course Centres across the UK
- Format: Lectures, skill stations, and cardiac arrest simulations (CASTeach)
- Faculty: Highly skilled and dedicated RCUK Instructors ensuring uniform course delivery
Pre-Course Preparation:
Candidates receive their ILS manual two weeks in advance and may be asked to complete a supporting MCQ paper.
